Assessment is a critical step in addressing the issue of domestic violence. It helps to lay the foundation for risk management, identify underlying issues, and tailor interventions to meet the specific needs of the Service User.

This eLearn will take you through a simulated assessment between a Service User (John) and Assessor (Ken) via video format, demonstrating the following nine key areas:

  • Engagement
  • Agenda mapping
  • Pathway mapping
  • Re-engaging
  • Personal resilience
  • Behaviour mapping
  • Behaviour map recap
  • Cost-benefit analysis
  • Summary

This course will equip you with the skills, knowledge and practices to:

  • A clear understanding of the nine key areas covered within the assessment and how to incorporate these within your own assessment process
  • A clear understanding of how to effectively engage Service Users, gather accurate information (especially information related to risk), and increase both motivation and readiness to undertake rehabilitative work
  • A solid understanding of motivational interviewing techniques and how these can be effectively utilised within an assessment
  • A greater sense of what it takes to achieve better outcomes from assessment
